We welcome all feedback from members who have visited our reciprocal club network around the world, to ensure we have the best possible partnerships for those of you travelling and still looking for that home from home feeling. Members Lynden and Peter Lane recently visited Kelvin Grove Club in South Africa. Read their report here.
In November, 2019 it was our great pleasure to visit one of ROSL’s reciprocal clubs, the Kelvin Grove Club in Cape Town.
Situated adjacent to Newlands Cricket Ground it has several restaurants, lounges, a swimming pool, tennis courts, croquet courts and several bowling greens set in beautiful grounds.
There is no accommodation but prides itself on the outdoor facilities in offers in a wonderful climate.
We were staying a month at our favourite hotel, an easy stroll away, and although we did not need the facilities offered by Kelvin Grove we do rather like to visit reciprocal clubs on our travels.
The welcome we received on our first visit was wonderful, especially when we showed them our letter of introduction from ROSL in London! Within minutes we both had temporary membership cards and the run of the club. Everywhere we went we were welcomed with open arms – the card must be shown throughout, especially when ordering food and drink (might be a good idea to adopt this convention at ROSL?) and immediately the staff could see we were new and extended their hand of friendship.
During our stay in the area we visited the Club several times. The food was innovative, the coffee terrific and the fruit tarts were delicious. Each time we wandered around the gardens and watched the members partaking of the various activities we were always invited to join in with a friendliness unsurpassed.
Kelvin Grove is some 20 mins from Cape Town city centre by car and is also accessible by train. After watching cricket matches next door one can easily drop into the Club for a drink or a meal and we can recommend this highly to cricket loving ROSL members visiting Cape Town for a Test match.
