How long have you been at ROSL and how did you hear about the club in the first place?
I have been with ROSL for around five months. I heard about the organisation when the position of HR Officer came up. I really enjoyed learning about ROSL and when I came in for my interview with Sarah the Director of HR I fell in love with the building and organisation.
Can you describe an average day?
I’m not sure I have an average day as every day here is different. My days generally do all include some admin but otherwise I could be putting chairs together, refereeing intercompany football games, planning staff parties or training our wonderful team of people. I really enjoy how varied my days are and appreciate how welcoming the team have been to me. I have a great deal of autonomy and I love that everyone feels they can come and talk to me and put forward their ideas on how to improve things. I never have a dull moment in my day and wouldn’t want it any other way.
What are the best things about the job and what do you wish you could change?
It’s great how passionate the team I have the pleasure of working with are about the good causes we support; from arts and music to the educational projects we have across the Commonwealth. I also think the commitment ROSL has to its initial vision and values is amazing and something few organisations today can say. ROSL also has a strong sense of commitment to both its members and team members. We invest in our people a lot and are always looking for ways to improve people’s lives in and out of the clubhouse.
If I had to change something, it would be the level of awareness of the great things and hard work the organisation puts into everything it does. With more members and great people we could achieve so much more.
How do you spend your time when you're not in the club?
When I’m not at the club I spend most of my time with my beautiful little boy Freddie. We go on lots of little adventures in and around London. I also love to keep fit and have a first degree black belt in Tai Kwon Do which helps me keep the team in order!
Would you recommend people to join or even to work here at ROSL?
I think it’s a real testament to all those who are part of ROSL, either as a member or employee, that after all this time, the club's mission remains the same as that described by Sir Evelyn Wrench in 1910. It’s also a great honour to work for a company that has helped so many people in their time of need and expect nothing back in return. We have a great little family of employees here at Over-Seas House and I personally really enjoy working here and learning everyone’s story, so I would say yes.
