The Royal Over-Seas League is once again inviting applications from artists who would like to spend two months in the UK on a fully funded residency. We have two residencies available for artists who are from Commonwealth or former Commonwealth countries and have never studied or exhibited in the UK.
The residencies focus on networking and creative development with opportunities for artists to share their work with a UK audience and to work in a sociable studio with other creatives. Taking place from 2 September to 1 November 2019, the residency offers fully covered travel costs, visa costs, living costs covered with a per diem, studio space in The Art House in Wakefield, access to a fully equipped print studio, an opportunity to show work in The Art House exhibition space, coaching and mentoring through 1-2-1 sessions with our team, a funded visit to ROSL London and the opportunity to see the art scene of the capital over Frieze week.
ROSL international residencies moved to The Art House last year, having previously taken place at Hospitalfield in Arbroath. The Art House was established in 1994 by a group of artists with a vision to provide fully-accessible studio space. In the period 1994 – 2004, a small group of artists and arts professionals worked to secure funding for arts projects, training events and artists’ residencies across Yorkshire and the Midlands. The initial aim for the organisation was achieved in 2008 when The Art House opened a new building, exemplary in terms of accessibility, offering artists’ studios, accommodation, meeting rooms and community spaces. The brilliantly equipped building, enthusiastic staff and accessible location drew ROSL to the Art House and allows us to offer a very exciting residency.
