Having won the Roderick Lakin Professional Development Award for Singers in last year's Annual Musical Competition, Jess Dandy contralto is using that support from ROSL to launch her SongPath project this summer.

On Sunday 16 June, SongPath invites you to its inaugural celebration of the restorative powers of walking, talking and music making in the wonderful landscapes of South Cumbria.

Beginning at 10am in the 11th century coastal village of Bardsea, share the breathtaking views over Morecambe Bay with your fellow walkers, before making your way to the Bronze Age Stone Circle on the prehistoric limestone pavements of Birkrigg Common. The Woodland Trust’s Swarthmoor Hall Wood comes next, an unsuspecting little haven of ancient woodland on the banks of the Levy Beck, where you’ll sit awhile before continuing to Swarthmoor Hall itself, the historic founding home of the Quaker movement and home to wild meadow and wheelchair-accessible quiet garden for meditation.

All the while, you’ll be exploring the musical and natural treasures to be found in the landscape around you, celebrating what it means to be rooted and what it means to be well. As well as Jess, fellow travellers include Martin Roscoe (classical award-winning pianist) and Rufus Harrington, the University of Cumbria’s senior lecturer in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Together with you, they will be making music, talking and meditating on the restorative and grounding qualities of our own SongPaths.

Come along for ten minutes or the whole day – it is entirely up to you. Free to attend, but please register here as spaces are limited.

Jess and Martin will also be collaborating on Friday 14 June as part of the Ulverston International Music Festival. Together, they will perform a programme of Schubert, Ravel, and Brahms, among others, at the Coronation Hall from 1pm. Tickets are £3 for students and children, and £13 for adults. Book here.
