On Tuesday night, Allen Packwood, Director of the Churchill Archives Centre, spoke about his new book How Churchill Waged War: The Most Challenging Decisions of the Second World War in the Princess Alexandra Hall at ROSL HQ.

Treating the audience of ROSL members and supporters to an interesting overview of his book, Packwood, seeking to understand Churchill's crucial decisions, highlighted some of the emotion, complexity and nuance that are often missing whenever he is discussed. Packwood, who has worked with Churchill's archive papers for more than two decades, also fielded some excellent questions from the audience, which allowed the author to talk in more detail; showing his great knowledge of this great Prime Minister and his work.

His book is an insightful investigation into the wartime leader's conduct during the Second World War, which enables the reader to share the agonies and uncertainties faced by Churchill at each crucial stage of the war. How Churchill responded to each challenge is analysed in great detail and the conclusions Mr Packwood draws are as uncompromising as those made by the Prime Minister as he negotiated his country through its darkest days.
