In the upcoming weeks, events such as Pride, the RAF 100 Flypast and the visit of the President of the United States of America. These events will mean that London is busier than usual and getting around London may take longer. Please read the below about what will be impacted and take them into consideration when making travel arrangements.
London Pride
Saturday 7 July is the annual Pride parade and associated events. Central London will be extremely busy with foot traffic and there will be extensive road closures for most of the day along the parade route and surrounding areas. The Parade starts at 12pm and will last until approximately 5pm, starting at Portland Place and ending up on Whitehall. You can find the full list of road closures here. On the day it is best to follow @PrideinLondon and @TFL on twitter for live updates.
The event will have a comprehensive policing plan to ensure the safety of all involved which will last into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Local businesses and the Metropolitan Police are running a Safety Zone in the forecourt of Charing Cross Train Station from 0130-0530 to provide a place for people who may find themselves vulnerable.
You may have also noticed that England will also be playing Sweden at 1500 on the same day in their World Cup Quarter Final Match which may add to the numbers of people in the area.
Licensing teams will be on duty throughout the day to deal with any issues that may arise.
RAF 100 Flypast
On tuesday 10 July, the RAF will be marking their 100th birthday with a parade and historical flypast over Buckingham Palace. You may have already seen our article on the event and how you can best take part in the celebrations whilst you're with us in London, however if you are travelling you should be aware of increased traffic on tube and rail links in the area. From 7am till 5pm the following roads will be closed: The Mall, Birdcage Walk, Spur Road, Buckingham Gate, Constitution Hill, Horse Guards Road, Spring Gardens, Link Road, Marlborough Road, Broad Sanctuary, Great George Street, Little Sanctuary, Little George Street, Storey’s Gate, Matthew Parker Street, Old Queen Street, Victoria Street, Tothill Street and Great Smith Street. Cleveland Row and Russell Court will be closed until 10pm.
State Visit of The President of the United States of America
The President of the United States will be making a visit to London on Friday 13 July. He will be in the country until Sunday 15 July. Further details are not available at this time and are unlikely to be provided in detail for security reasons, however we have been told to expect road closures and large protests over the three day period. Updates on closures will be published by TFL and the Metropolitan Police on their website and Social Media.
Sunday 15 July may also see further large crowds as the football is rumoured "To Be Coming Home".
