Last night our 2015 Annual Music Competition Gold Medal winner, saxophonist Huw Wiggin, returned to ROSL to launch his album Reflections with Orchid Classics. The evening included a performance of selected tracks from the album along with pianist John Lenehan and harpist Oliver Wass, including Huw talking about his inspiration behind the album, followed by the chance to meet and chat with all the musicians over a glass of wine.

The album has gone straight to number two in the specialist classical charts and has been featured on iTunes pre-orders. Jon Jacobs of Thoroughly Good Blog gave the album a beaming review, calling Reflections one of his top albums of the year so far, and praising Huw for his playing:

"Wiggin resists melancholy or over-sentimentality, creating something brimming with strong-jawed pride." Read the full review here.

The album has also been featured on Contemplative Classical, a playlist curated by Michael Price with Huw’s performance of Fuzzy Bird Sonata.

Huw isn't the only ROSL ARTS alum stepping into the recording studio, with Florian Mitrea, winner of the Piano Section of the Annual Music Competition, performing at the club on Thursday 12 July to launch his album Following the River.  Find out more about this event here.
