Following the success of the 2017 ROSL ARTS Scholarship for a BC Emerging Musician, which was won by Kristen Cooke oboe, the 2018 auditions were held last weekend at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a winner has been chosen!

Congratulations to clarinetist Carlos Savall-Guardiola, who was selected as the winner by judges Geoff Parkin, Director of ROSL ARTS and UBC Professor Emeritus Jesse Read. Carlos will come to the UK in the summer to perform in London and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, attend a UK Summer Music School, and receive lessons from prominent UK teachers. The judges were particularly impressed by his technical and expressive virtuosity, performing Claritnetics by Stephen Davies.

Speaking after the competition, Director of UBC's School of Music said: "It was wonderful that Geoff Parkin was able to visit UBC on this occasion and participate in the selection of the competition winner.

"We are deeply grateful to the Royal Over-Seas League for the generosity of this scholarship, and especially to Mr. Parkin and to Elizabeth Murray, President of the BC ROSL Chapter, for their very active engagement and ethusiastic support for UBC Music students!"

Keep an eye on the events section of the website to see when Carlos will be performing here in the UK.
