Judith Leckie, President of ROSL's Christchurch branch in New Zealand reports on their activities in supporting musicians in the local area.

It was after hosting a wonderful musical afternoon for pupils from the 'Specialist Music Programme' at Westburn Primary School that the Christchurch Branch of ROSL decided to award an annual scholarship to a promising young pupil at the end of their academic year’s final concert.

We have awarded two scholarships to date.  The first 'Award of Excellence', as it is called, was presented to 13 year old violinist Justin Hodges, who is now playing as a soloist at numerous Christchurch concerts, as well as attending the prestigious school of Christ’s College, where he won the highly sought after Music Scholarship for five years of schooling.

Our second winner at the end of 2017 was another violinist, Karen Huang, also age 13, who shows a great deal of talent and potential. She has been accepted into New Zealand’s second-largest high school’s 'Specialist Music Programme' at Burnside High School. We now look forward to following the progress of both these highly talented pupils, whom we feel will ascend to greater heights in the musical world and our branch is very proud to have given them a helping hand for their future studies.
