Our Vice-Patron, HRH Princess Alexandra, has been an integral part of ROSL for decades, particularly when it comes to the Annual Music Competition. Her tireless support of the young musicians which take part every year has been a crucial part of the competition's continued success. We look back at her involvement with the club and the AMC over the years.

Although Vice-Patron since 1979, the princess' involvement with ROSL actually goes back much further. Below is a photo of the young Alexandra signing the visitors's book on a visit to the London clubhouse in 1958.

She attended her first prizewinners concert in 1964 and has become a regular fixture since, presenting the awards on several occasions. Below shows her at the 1979 Grand Final at Queen Elizabeth Hall with Lord Hall and Lady Evelyn Barbirolli.

In 2015, she wrote to the club voicing her support for the AMC, one of ROSL's 'most significant and enduring achievements'.

Her support continues today, with her participation in the awards presentation at the 2017 Grand Final in Cadogan Hall. Below shows HRH with James Buckle bass trombone, winner of the Gold Medal.
