The British Columbia branch will be hosting a reception and recital from oboist Kristen Cooke on Thursday 14 September at the Terminal City Club.

This event will be our opportunity to hear Kristen, the first winner of the ROSL BC Emerging Musician Scholarship, not only perform but also talk about her study tour experience in Britain this summer. She is currently performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with other ROSL award-winning musicians.

Kristen Cooke

At last year’s Reception and Recital event, she announced the creation of the ROSL BC Emerging Musician Scholarship, a collaborative initiative between the ROSL ARTS Program and UBC School of Music. An article in the June – August 2017 issue of the ROSL Journal (see page 9) describes the audition process. Canadian pianist Carson Becke, who wrote the article, together with well-known Vancouver musicians, Jane Coop and Bramwell Tovey were the jurists for the scholarship auditions.
