February and March at ROSL means it is Annual Music Competition time again! Now in its 65th year, the competition is one of the most highly regarded around and has an enviable record of identifying the finest young talent out there. Prizewinners of the competition become part of the ROSL “family” and many winners over the years have told of how they come to regard the clubhouse as a second home, for rehearsals, concerts and mentoring as they start to make their way in a tricky but rewarding industry.
We have two new awards for the competition this year. Firstly a £5,000 scholarship for the Gold Medal winner, in memory of Mani Bhumgara, to be spent on projects which will help support and build their career. And secondly a new professional development scholarship for singers, awarded by Margaret Lakin, in memory of ROSL’s beloved former Director of Arts, Roderick Lakin MBE.

In a departure from previous years, the first round has already taken place, judged on video and so I can happily report that we have some excellent section finals to look forward to, and I do hope for good audiences to warmly support the young musicians as they perform each week.

The section finals are always exciting occasions will a real buzz, so do come along and enjoy some brilliant music and a glass of wine afterwards! Find out more about the competition, the previous winners and book tickets here.
