The careers of our busy visual art alumni include projects all over the world and we are pleased to share that our 2019 scholar Joey Chin is back in the UK working on a project titled Chinese Classics: Arts Practice & the Community. The project taking place in Birmingham sees Joey and two fellow artists exploring the relevance of Chinese classical literature today.
Using three pieces of Chinese classical literature; The Butterfly Lovers (Tang dynasty 618-906), Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio (1740) by Pu Songling and Classic of Mountains and Seas (3rd Century B.C. to the 1st Century A.D.) the three artists have developed original artworks, in collaboration with people aged over 40 and carers from the Chinese Community Centre - Birmingham. The project is captured in an exhibition curated by Dr Rachel Marsden, which includes contributions from the Chinese community to celebrate their art practice, and references to the Library of Birmingham and Cadbury Research Library collections.
The exhibition launches with a private view on March 5 (more details here) and will run to 31 May 2020.
