ROSL's long history of supporting young musicians, mostly notably through the Annual Music Competition over the past 70 years, has nurtured the performance side of music making. We now want to build on this tradition with a brand-new Composition Award in association with the London Sinfonietta, which seeks to give those behind the music a chance to shine.
Free to enter, advanced young professional composers aged 18-35 are invited to apply for one of six places to workshop a short original work with London Sinfonietta, following which one composer will be selected as the winner of the ROSL Composition Award, and will receive a £3,000 commission to compose a 12-15 minute chamber work for six players and conductor, to be premiered by London Sinfonietta on 7 July 2021 at the Southbank Centre.
The composition award panel for 2020 includes celebrated composers Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Gavin Higgins, Errollyn Wallen CBE, and Tina Speed, Creative Manager for Wise Music Classical.

ROSL has a long history of commissioning and programming contemporary work and is excited to build on this tradition. We are also committed to unlocking the musical potential of schoolchildren in partnership with the Griffin Schools Trust, so alongside the main award will run a series of Go Compose! days in secondary schools in Bedworth, Milton Keynes and East London.
