Yesterday saw figurative artist Josie Deighton return to ROSL for another in our series of life drawing classes.

This time it was the acrobatic life model Andrew that we were tasked with depicting, who went through a variety of unusual gravity-defying poses while Josie guided us through the basics of drawing from life. By giving us different tasks to complete in different timeframes, we learned how to get the basic shape of the model down on paper quickly, before then returning to fill in the details.

It was useful for thinking about proportion and perspective of Andrew as whole, without becoming bogged down in specifics, which came later.

By the end of the two-hour session, it was clear all the participants had come on a great deal and there was a real sense that so much could be achieved with a little practice.

To make sure as many members as possible will get a chance to take part in the drawing classes, from now on Josie will be coming in from 6.30-8.30pm so people can come along after work. The next class takes place on 25 September and includes a glass of wine, as well as equipment. Book here
