British author Delia Jarrett-Macauley, winner of the 2006 Orwell Prize for political writing for her novel Moses, Citizen & Me, will be speaking at the Chairman's Lunch Thursday 10 May.
Her connection with ROSL goes back a long way, having served on the judging panel for the Caine Prize as far back as 2007, and this year serving as the Chair of the panel. The prize, awarded to the best original short story from an African writer, is sometimes referred to as the 'African Booker' for it's connection to Sir Michael Caine, former Chairman of Booker plc, whom the prize was set up in memory in 2000. The entries, written in English, compete for the £10,000 prize.

This year also marks the first opportunity for members to get more involved in the Caine Prize, with the introduction of the ROSL Readers' Award! This new prize gives you the chance to read all the shortlisted entries for this year's Caine Prize and vote for your favourite. The winner of our online vote will win £1,000 and be commissioned to write an original piece for a forthcoming issue of Overseas.
