Chinese New Year falls on Thursday 16 February in 2018 and if you're in London there are plenty of ways to celebrate.
This year the Chinese Zodiac reaches the Year of the Dog on its 12-year cycle, specifically the Earth Dog. Those born in the Year of the Dog are said to be honest and loyal, stubborn and never give up. Do you share these characteristics?
If you're staying at ROSL, you can take a short walk to Trafalgar Square where festivities kick off at 10am, with a parade that heads through Picadilly Circus and up Shafetsbury Avenue. Acrobatic displays, as well as music, folk dancing, and singing will see China Town and the surrounding streets awash with colour for the celebrations.
If the February weather proves unreliable, you could always head indoors to the National Gallery, which will be providing family friendly arts and crafts, such as calligraphy, from Saturday 17 February. The V&A Museum of Childhood will also include Chinese mask making activities, as well as calligraphy and even basic Chinese lessons. Performances from kung fu and tai chi instructors will keep you active!
If you're looking for something a little more sedentary, sit back and enjoy The Philharmonia's Chinese New Year celebration at the Southbank Centre, conducted by Long Yu. He will lead the orchestra through traditional folk songs, joined by the Xiashuijiing Farmers' Choir.
