Featuring HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the photo on the card was taken in London, on 12 March 2017, during the launch of The Queen's Baton Relay for the XXI Commonwealth Games. Due to be held on the Gold Coast of Australia in April 2018, the games will coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, to be held in London and Windsor, marking a big year for Commonwealth activities. ROSL will be holding a number of events to mark the occasion, which can be found on the events section of the website.
The Baton Relay depicted on the Christmas card mark, marks the start of a 388-day journey for the baton, taking in every Commonwealth country and territory, covering over 230,000 km. The baton carries a message from The Queen, which when read aloud at the Commonwealth Games next year, will mark the official start to the competition.
