2010 ROSL International Residency recipient Shake Makelele is a painter, who visited the UK with the support of ROSL tospend time working at Hospitalfield in ScotlandHe exhibited his work after spending time in the UK and is now sharing some of his work and his experience of working in isolation. 

Where are you right now?

I am in Nairobi Kenya. The place I live is called Kitengela in the outskirts of Nairobi.

What have you been doing up to recently?

I have been painting and also doing some paper mosaic artworks. 

Have you had to change any plans due to the COVID-19 outbreak?

Yes,I was used to travelling from my home to my studio but now Ihave to work from the balcony of my flat, which is not what am used to. I also had plans to travel out of the country for some exhibitions, but Ican no longer do that, I'll have to wait until later, after the end of the pandemic.

Online spaces, Facebook, and other websites owned by galleries and individual people. I am soon planning to have my personal website, for now just search Shake Makelele on google to find my work.
