The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) was founded in 1910 by Sir Evelyn Wrench to encourage international friendship and understanding.

ROSL is a self-funded, non-profit organisation which offers clubhouse facilities to members and supports the Commonwealth through its own social, music, arts and welfare activities.

ROSL is an officially recognised Commonwealth NGO.

Membership has been open to men and women on equal terms since 1910 and today boosts an equal male/female membership ratio.

ROSL has over 16,500 members worldwide; with active branches in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Thailand and Switzerland. In the UK there are 9 local branches organising lectures, lunches and concerts for members outside of London.

ROSL's headquarters is the London clubhouse; comprising 83 bedrooms, private garden and terrace with views of Green Park, restaurant, brasserie and bar (with al fresco dining in summer), drawing room and seven conference and private dining rooms.

ROSL also has a clubhouse in Edinburgh, located at 100 Princes Street, this property benefits from exceptional views of the castles and comprises 20 bedrooms, bar, restaurant, and conference and private dining facilities.

Our members enjoy a varied cultural and social events programme: wine tastings, dinners, visits to places of historical interest, concerts, art exhibitions and book events.

ROSL ARTS holds Annual Classical Music Competitions in the UK for young Commonwealth musicians. The final is held each year at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

ROSL ARTS supports (up to five) visual arts scholars each year, with educational bursaries and exhibition opportunities.

Since 1995 ROSL has developed joint welfare projects in Sri Lanka (eye care camps in association with Colombo Eye Bank and Singapore), Namibia (local school bursaries for San and farm children in association with the Ministry of Education) and has recently extended to bursaries to Botswana and Kenya.
