My work is based on the feelings and thoughts of how familiar aspects of the natural environment - maybe a field, a copse, or a lane - can affect or reflect the mood of the person in the landscape. Everyday scenes can appear extraordinary when seen in the drama of light and cloud, or in the mystery of twilight or mist. For a short while, the look of mundane surroundings can suggest a different reality and inspire a new way of seeing or thinking.
My paintings are imagined, but real in the sense that they are reconstructions of years of walking and absorbing the landscape around my studio, and seeing the sky and effects of light in all weathers and times of day. They might be the same walks, but they are always different, uplifting, and something new to think about.

Born 1953, and graduated from Medway College of Art aged 20. A full time artist, painting & exhibiting works from graduation to present.
