Zeppelins over London: A WWI Walking Tour

Starting on November 04, 2018 11:00

Late on the night of the 31st May 1915, the citizens of London were suddenly thrown into the turbulent action of the First World War when German Army Airship LZ13, commanded by Kptlt Heinrich Mathy, began releasing incendiary bombs onto the slumbering city. Our walk, run by a registered Blue Badge Guide, will trace the distruction of the first aerial attack on civilians, starting in Stoke Newington where the bombs claimed the life of their first victim: three-year-old Elsie Leggatt. Along the walk discover what life was like in London during the nine bombing raids that took place between May 1915 and October 1917, how the authorities came up with a defence against an entirely new form of war, and how the city still carries the scars today.

On the tour we will be using headsets to ensure all guests can hear the guide. Please alert Jessica if you wear a hearing aid so the appropriate headset can be ordered. Guests are welcome to bring their own headphones if they so wish.

The tour will start at 11am at Red Lion Square. A member of the events team will be there from 10.30am to register you. Please look out for the large ROSL umberella.

Accommodation offer alert: Why not stay the whole weekend with our exclusive offer? Book one night in a deluxe double or twin room and get the second night free. Read more here.
