Categories: ROSL Events

The Royal-Over Seas league and ROSL Arts are excited to present 'An evening with Kabantu', celebrating world music at Over-Seas House, London to commemorate the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting London 2018.

Kabantu are reimagining global sounds, rewriting the rulebook - winners of the Royal Over-Seas League Ensembles Section 2017. A quintet from Manchester, they unravel new marriages of music from around the globe to celebrate the space where different cultures meet. Their name is a hybrid of South African languages and also stems from the African philosophy of “ubuntu” taken from the phrase “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” translating as “a person by a person through other people” or “I am what I am because of who we all are”. Embracing variety, this programme mainly explores music from the Commonwealth, tied together by our links to South Africa and the UK, to reflect Kabantu's own nationalities.
Kabantu have performed across the UK including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, BBC Free Thinking Festival at The Sage Gateshead, BBC Radio 3 In Tune, The Bridgewater Hall, Celtic Connections and Cambridge Folk Festival.

This event is open to both members, and non members.
