Whether it be the trace of the artist left behind in their mark making or the alchemy of a resolved form rendered in a mix of materials applied with exquisite skill, RBA RISING STARS maps the trajectory of what is yet to come in contemporary art practice from the relative viewpoint of the present day. Amongst other awards for the finalists is a one-month residency at Sala Uno, an arts centre in the heart of Rome.

The history of this collaboration with ROSL, which hosts the work of young artists aged 35 and under, began in 2017 and acknowledges the depth of emerging talent present across the UK in figurative forms of contemporary art. Selected by the RBA Education Committee, RBA RISING STARS artists include Fanny Arnesen, Nicholas Baldion, Clark Broadwood-Smith, Edward Butt, Seabomna Choe, Louisa Clark, Eleanor Dunn, Jorja Ellington, Poppy Field, Toby Gawler, Emily Gillbanks, Habib Hajallie, Lily Hargreaves, Alex Heard, Ottelien Huckin, Yeonsu Ju, Zoe Lambert, Tedi Lena, Katrine Lyck, Niall MacCrann, Eleni Maragaki, Rufus Martin, Alice Miller, Rebecca Munday, Emily North, Valeria Nuyanzina, Elena Onwochei-Garcia, Samuel Owusu Achiaw, Chris Polunin, Selina Pope, Aaron Rigal, Sabrina Rosenheim, Zuzanna Salamon, Grace Tobin, Agnes Treherne, Filip Velkovski, Purdey Williams, Naomi Workman, Yuhan Ye and Diana Zrnic.

“There are always a large number of applications from artists aged 18 – 35 from all over the UK.  We have a Selection Team of RBA members who vote for their favourite works.  This year, we were delighted to invite Robin Footitt, the ROSL Arts Coordinator [himself an artist] to join the team.  There is always a divergence of opinion among them, but they are agreed that the selected artists all displayed a high level of quality, skill and creativity in their work and this exhibition is a celebration of their talent."
