My piece aimed to explore the expression of emotion within art. I am particularly interested in the interconnection between colour and emotion, in which feelings and responses are so often associated with their colour counterpart. A conspicuous method of doing this could have been through the use of hot and cold tones, obviously associated with fiery anger in contrast with sadness and sorrow. Instead I chose to use a wide spectrum of colours, some contrasting and some blending seamlessly into one another. This allowed me to represent an array of thoughts and feelings experienced within one's head at one time. The lightly etched range of hues are able to constitute into a representation of a bigger battle of emotions within somebody. I aimed to further emphasise this idea through the erratic nature of the composition. The multiple portraits evoke a sense of unpredictability and uncertainty, resulting in capturing the subject’s range of emotions in only a brief moment, like capturing a train of thought. The medium i have used is a range of coloured biro pens. This enabled me to delicately form each face through thin line work and light hatching in exclusively horizontal or vertical lines, allowing me to subtly blend each portrait together. This blending formulates a sense of movement, further adding to the idea of confusion or deep thought the subject is experiencing. Biro pen additionally allowed me to draw intricate and fragile details representative of the elegant female subject pictured.
